Our client is seeking a Piping Engineering - Head of Department who will ensure that the engineering work within their discipline is performed to the correct standard and within the budgeted execution hours. The Head of Department will be accountable to the Engineering Head of Department.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Allocating appropriate discipline resources for the preparation of proposals, FEED Verification, and detailed engineering on projects.

  • Preparing verbal or written reports as required, outlining the current workload in the group and whether it will meet set targets. If not, reasons should be provided along with the steps taken, or which need to be taken, to get back on target.

  • Liaising closely with the various Engineers/Head of Department for whom the group is doing work. This will enable the latest developments, which may affect the schedule, to be ascertained. They will advise them of problem areas.

  • Ensuring that all the information needed by engineers to perform their work is available before they need it so that work progresses at a smooth and steady pace, on time and on target.

  • Ensuring that work done in the discipline is accurate and correct.

  • Providing assessments for the Engineering, on the performance of the various engineers/designers.

  • Performing checking functions for more junior engineers by signing QA/QC check sheets.

  • Ensuring that any necessary reference material is readily available to engineers whether it be a National or Client Standard, Procedure, or recognized Code of Practice. Also, ensuring that the most used vendor literature is available.

  • Allocating work packages to suitable engineers, monitoring progress against the schedule, resolving queries and generally expediting the progress of the design.

  • Liaising with the relevant Engineering with respect to resources and equipment requirements needed for the discipline to complete the work.

  • Ensuring that the discipline engineering work is performed to the correct standard.

  • Ensuring work performed within the discipline is executed within the allocated execution hours.

  • Being computer literate – e-mail, spreadsheets, and proprietary design software.

  • Being confident in their engineering ability and experience to handle queries and problems as they arise.

  • Being able to grasp the important facts in a project and to create a schedule of work for the discipline engineers which gets the work done on schedule and within the execution hours.

  • Being aware of the strengths and weaknesses of the group discipline engineers, allocate work accordingly, provide tuition to address the weaknesses and generally promote greater expertise within the group.

  • Being able to assess value engineering and constructability issues.

  • Performing any other ad hoc duties as assigned from time to time.

  • Maintaining standards of HSE and complying with the Company’s Health, Safety & Environment Management System requirements. Taking reasonable care of one’s own health and safety and that of others in the workplace. Following and maintaining Company standards of Quality in accordance with Company Quality System requirement.

  • Raising issues of concern, development, and improvement to Head of Department.

Qualifications and skills include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering. 

  • Chartered status preferred. 

  • Significant related project management experience working for engineering/client organizations in the oil and gas industry and/or Low Carbon Energy Transition industry.

  • Leadership & execution-hours estimation skills

  • QA/QC Company Requirements

  • Team management skills

  • Essential: Experience of executing projects in the Middle East.

  • Desirable: Saudi Aramco Projects working experience.
